NATIVE AMERICAN SUSTAINABLE TECHNOLOGY TRAINING PROGRAM

Sustainable Nations Development Project is hosting its second annual Native American Sustainable Development Technology Training Program on the Hoopa Valley Reservation in Hoopa, California between July 29th and August 6th, 2006. This program includes intensive hands-on training in renewable energy systems, sustainable building with an emphasis on high-quality straw bale construction, and alternative on-site wastewater treatment techniques.  The focus of the training is our business/project development component, in which we provide follow up business development support, further training, apprenticeships, and mentoring to ensure the success of on-reservation small scale sustainable development technology programs, projects, and businesses. The focus of our energy component this year will be microhydroelectric systems.  Our hands-on work this year includes a hybrid solar/microhydroelectric energy system installation, the construction of an earth plastered straw bale battery house for the energy system, and a chance for students to see and work on a large straw bale house build. Native American technicians and instructors will be on hand to lead the installation and workshop projects. In collaboration with SNDP and NativeSun, additional technical support will be provided by Solar Energy International.

A limited number of scholarships are available to attend the training. For more information, or to make a tax-deductible donation, visit www.sustainablenations.org or contact PennElys Goodshield at 707-677-3588.
